Guangpeng was born and raised in Shandong in east China. He spent his undergraduate years at Liaocheng University in Shandong where he received his B.S. in Biological Science in June 2012. He took a year as a high school maths teacher in Qingdao before coming to Chengdu and joined Professor Zhongliu Wu’s lab in Chengdu Institute of Biology. There, he worked on a project involving the screening, expression and molecular modification of efficient and highly selective functional enzymes, and graduated with an MSc in Biological Engineering in June 2016. After her Master’s, he decided to pursue his career in organic chemistry; in 2018, he moved to Beijing to undertake his Ph.D. at Beijing Normal University and National Institute of Biological Sciences (NIBS). During this time, he worked on the total synthesis of Daphnezomines A and B in Professor Chao Li’s group where he received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in June 2021. After a long journey, he finally found his way from Beijing to join Zhiwei Zuo's group at the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry as a postdoctoral researcher. Outside of the lab, Guangpeng loves long-distance running and calligraphy.
